My grandfather, Walter Kirschner, was born in Philadelphia in 1910, the sixth of eight children. His wife, my grandmother Rebekah, was also born in Philadelphia, in 1907; she was one of 10 children. Most of my grandparents and great-aunts and -uncles, all born between 1900 and 1913, lived into their 80s or 90s.
